About Sports Magic Numbers

What we build

Sports Magic Numbers is an independent project run by its developer and marketing partner. We turn NHL and MLB standings into a practical answer: how close is your team to a playoff spot, what could eliminate it, and which other results matter?

Our contribution is the calculation and explanation around the standings: magic and elimination numbers, opponent-specific rooting guides, what-if tools, and daily email summaries for the teams you choose. Read our methodology and limitations.

We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the NHL, MLB, or their teams. League and team names identify the competitions we cover.

For a calculation issue, include the team, page address, time you checked it (with time zone), and the result you expected. A screenshot of the number is helpful. Please leave out private subscription-management links and confirmation tokens.

We investigate reports against the source data and calculation assumptions. We are a small team, so we cannot promise an immediate response or uninterrupted updates.

Keeping the site useful

The core team trackers are free to use. Advertising is our planned way to support hosting and ongoing development. An ad is not an endorsement by Sports Magic Numbers.
